Report: Bush Begins Planning for Future Afghan Government - 2001-10-14

A U-S newspaper reports President Bush has begun to plan for a future Afghan government -- in the event the ruling Taleban collapses under the U-S-led military campaign.

The New York Times quotes a senior U-S official as saying Mr. Bush has begun discussions on how the United States could help Afghans quickly form a new government.

The report says the planning sessions have had three broad aims -- creating a viable and broad-based coalition government, beginning economic rebuilding and providing a security force that would keep the peace.

Mr. Bush has reportedly said in the planning sessions that he does not want to deal with a similar threat like the Taleban in the years to come.
