The United Nations says Afghanistan's ruling Taleban has seized two of its warehouses full of food aid, dealing a potentially crippling blow to international efforts to deliver food in the country.
Catherine Bertini, executive director for the U-N World Food Program, said Taleban forces ordered aid workers to leave the warehouses in Kabul and Kandahar late Tuesday.
A total of nearly seven thousand tons of wheat was stored in the two warehouses. Ms. Bertini said this food is critical to the agency's efforts to distribute food throughout the country before the onset of winter.
The World Food Program operates six warehouses in Afghanistan, including the two taken over.
