Pakistani officials say an alert security officer prevented a serious bomb attack at Islamabad international airport.
Security officials said the guard noticed an abandoned briefcase in an area near a busy passenger lounge. The briefcase was rushed to a security bunker where it exploded minutes later. The blast caused minor damage to nearby vehicles, but no injuries.
Police officers are searching for a man who witnesses said brought the bag into the area, then abandoned it.
Authorities said the incident was an apparent terrorist attack, but could not say whether it was related to U-S military action in Afghanistan.
Airport operations continued as normal during the emergency amid increased security.
