Taleban Releases French Journalist Held Since Oct. 9 - 2001-11-03

The Afghan Islamic Press news agency says a French journalist detained by the Taleban since October 9th was freed today (Saturday) (near Jalalabad) at the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Reporter Michel Peyrard, who works for Paris Match magazine, was arrested two days after airstrikes began in Afghanistan. He had entered the country disguised in traditional Afghan women's clothing. The Taleban threatened to try him as a spy.

Two Pakistani reporters were arrested at the same time as the French journalist. At least one of them reportedly also was freed today.
