U-S officials say an American captured along with scores of Taleban fighters is being held by American Marines at a remote base in southern Afghanistan.
Defense officials say 20-year-old John Walker is being detained at Camp Rhino, south of Kandahar, while the Bush administration determines what charges to bring against him. Mr. Walker was among Taleban fighters taken prisoner by Northern Alliance forces after a prison revolt near Mazar-e-Sharif two weeks ago.
A lawyer for Mr. Walker's parents says they are desperately worried about him. The lawyer says the U-S government has not provided his parents any information about Mr. Walker's condition.
Mr. Walker converted from Catholicism to Islam when he was 16, and went to Yemen and Pakistan to study Arabic and Islam.
