A team of Chinese diplomats has arrived in the Afghan capital to prepare Beijing's embassy for reopening.
The official Xinhua news agency says the group, led by China's former deputy representative in Kabul, Zhang Min, plans to inspect the embassy building ahead of an eventual flag raising ceremony.
The Chinese embassy was closed in 1993 as Kabul was torn by factional fighting.
Xinhua says the Chinese officials also plan to attend a ceremony Saturday marking the installation of the new Afghan interim government led by Hamid Karzai.
The leader of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Zhang, is quoted as saying China plans to take an active role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
