U-S Spy Plane Crashes in Pakistan - 2002-07-10

U-S defense officials says an unmanned U-S spy plane has crashed in Pakistan during a routine mission in support of troops in Afghanistan.

Military officials said the loss of the Global Hawk reconnaissance plane appears to be the result of mechanical failure, not hostile fire.

A Pentagon spokesman said investigators will be sent to the crash site.

It was the second crash of a Global Hawk since December, when another of the experimental spy planes crashed near Afghanistan because of mechanical failure.
