A Grenade Attack in Kandahar Wounds Two Men - 2002-09-20


Witnesses in the Afghan city of Kandahar say two men wearing burqas threw grenades at a crowded market in the city, wounding at least two soldiers.

The grenades were thrown from a taxi as the soldiers shopped. The motive for the attack and the identity of the assailants was not immediately known.

One report (from Reuters) says the wounded soldiers were bodyguards for the commander of the local military corps, General Khan Mohammad.
