Afghanistan's ailing former king has injured three ribs when he slipped in a bathtub during a trip to southern France.
Mohammad Zahir Shah, who turned 88 on Monday, left Kabul for France in mid-September for a routine medical checkup. Doctors say the former king's ribs were not broken.
The trip was the former king's first out of Afghanistan since he returned in April, just months after the fall of the Taleban regime. For three decades he had lived in exile in Italy after his 40-year reign ended in a bloodless coup.
Aides say the former king would remain in France for some time for medical checkups
