New Zealand Soldiers Wounded in Mine Blast in Afghanistan - 2002-10-23

New Zealand says three of its soldiers serving in Afghanistan have been wounded when their vehicle struck a landmine.

New Zealand's defense force chief (Air Marshall Bruce Ferguson) says the three special forces soldiers suffered serious wounds in the explosion, with one man losing a foot.

The Associated Press quotes a U-S military spokesman (Colonel Roger King) as saying the incident occurred Tuesday north of the town of Farah in western Afghanistan.

New Zealand is among the countries that have contributed soldiers to the U-S-led coalition searching the Afghan countryside for pockets of Taleban and al-Qaida fighters.
