Secretary of State Colin Powell has cautiously welcomed the comments of Iran and Syria after Tuesday's attacks on major U-S landmarks.
Mr. Powell told C-B-S television that Iran had made a rather positive statement in condemning the terrorism. He said the United States has serious differences with Iran, but he said the statement is worth exploring.
Mr. Powell also said Syria had provided a forthcoming statement that he said may lead to new opportunities with Damascus.
The United States has designated both Iran and Syria as state sponsors of terrorism.
