The presidents of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, two Central Asian countries bordering Afghanistan, have agreed to step up cooperation in their fight against international terrorism.
Tajik Foreign Ministry officials say Emomali Rakhmonov and Islam Karimov in a telephone conversation discussed the need for specific measures to reinforce their borders with Afghanistan to avert possible incursions of extremists and terrorists.
The Itar-Tass news agency says both leaders also discussed a broad range of issues connected with the situation in Afghanistan in the wake of this month's terrorist attacks against the United States.
