The American captured with Taleban fighters in Afghanistan and now in U-S custody has sent a letter to his parents saying he is safe and regrets not contacting them sooner.
John Walker, who is being held at a Marine base in southern Afghanistan, reportedly dictated the letter to an International Red Cross volunteer.
Despite his detention, the 20-year-old Walker continues to attract attention, telling U-S officials that the al-Qaida terrorist network will launch a biological weapons attack against the United States in the next several days.
U-S officials were quick to question the credibility of the Walker claim, reportedly citing his relatively low-level position with the Taleban. The U-S Cable News Network quoted an unidentified Central Intelligence Agency (C-I-A) official as likening the claim to, in his words,"gossip around a campfire."
