Rockets Used Near US Base in Eastern Afghanistan - 2002-09-02

A U-S military spokesman says three rockets were fired Sunday near a base used by coalition forces in eastern Afghanistan and one hit a house, wounding five Afghan civilians.

Colonel Roger King says another of the rockets detonated about 500 meters from the base at Khost, while the third failed to explode. There was no information on who may have fired the rockets.

Colonel King spoke to reporters today (Monday) at Bagram Air Base near Kabul.

Coalition forces have actively been searching for holdout Taleban and Al-Qaida fighters in the region around Khost, which is located near Afghanistan's border with Pakistan.
